Some countries don't have the possibility to track or insure small objects. And if they do, it's usually very expensive.
Here in Finland for example, you can track a flat letter only inside the country, it's on it's own when it leaves the country.
For a packet you can buy tracking and/or insurance, but the packet alone costs over $30 to send (no matter how light and small it is..) so once again it's just too expensive.
I always save the receipt when I have sent an item overseas (and inside the country too) and I keep it until the other person has informed me that they got the item. If they don't get it, I still have proof that I have sent it.
