I think Kar is talking about GNC's Ultranourishhair, but most health food shops and similar stores sell a hair-specific supplement. If your sister is going to try it, make sure she tries it in conjunction with a general multivitamin, as hair-specific supplements don't work so well without general all-round vitamins.

Three other, additional supplements she may like to try are biotin, silica and MSG. Kelp also does wonders for hair growth.

Drinking lots of water *does* help, as if the body is dehydrated (you can be dehydrated without realising) none of it's systems work properly. 8 pints a day is the reccomended amount, and it's best to drink it slowly through the day.
If she gets a pint bottle of water, and takes small drinks constantly, it's easy to consume 8 pints without even realising it.

Getting enough water is a *big* thing for your health and wellbeing. Even schools and local health authorities (in the UK at least) are starting to recognise this - at all schools in my area now, each child is provided with a water bottle, and encouraged to drink as much from it as they like during the day, and allowed to refill it as necessary.

It's also worth noting that if you wait to drink until you're thirsty, your body is already dehydrated.

Getting 8 pints in a day honestly isn't really that difficult - I probably drink twice that! I'll put it this way lol, it's half nine right now, I've been up an hour and a half, and already had 3-4 pints. Yes, if you drink more than usual, you'll need to go to the loo more often, that's a given, but any toxins will be flushed out much more efficiently.

One point though - it should be actual *water* that your sister/anyone else should be drinking, coke, processed fizzy drinks that come in cans, and coffee are not good substitutes!
Fruit juice is better than anything else at a push, say if your water is truly undrinkable, but it should be fresh squeezed juice and not concentrated rubbish.
A couple of cups of *green* tea is also a good thing as part of your total (green tea has many benefits of it's own) but only as *part* of what you're drinking.
The same goes for Redbush/roobios tea, and other herbal-type teas/fruit infusions - great for part of your water total, but they shouldn't be *all* you drink.

Coffee and regular, black tea should ideally be limited to a couple of cups a day. Black tea is better than coffee if caffeine can't be given up full stop, as it does have redeeming qualities, or try decaf if it's only the taste of coffee that is liked. Any hot drink should preferably be drunk without sugar!
If a sweetener is needed, try a small amount of honey, if that isn't satisfactory, try to get as unrefined a sugar as possible - you get a lot more sweetness for less sugar.
Coke is just *eeeeevil* stuff, and IMO shouldn't be drunk at all, but if it can't be resisted, limit it to one can of diet coke a day. It won't just be "your" (generic you) hair that thanks you, but the rest of your body and your teeth as well!

Going back to roobios tea, it's worth pointing out that several people have noticed their hair growing slightly faster when drinking the tea, but it seems to be a YMMV (your mileage may vary) tip, as I haven't personally noticed much of a difference. On the other hand though, it could be making a difference that I'm just not noticing due to other factors, if that makes sense.

There is Minoxodil (also known as Regaine) and on the medical side of things, there is also Propecia. They are *mainly* for thinning hair, and I wouldn't reccomend using them if your sister doesn't have a medical problem, but they do have an effect on how fast/long hair grows also.

They are not the only products that affect hair growth, however. Almost *anything* applied to the hair has *some* effect on hair growth, even if the effect is only to stop the hair becoming damaged - if the hair isn't being damaged, it will *appear* to grow faster, as it will not be breaking and splitting.
Protien treatments are especially beneficial in this respect - your hair is made up of protien, and a treatment will help repair *small* amounts of damage, and keep hair generally healthy.
Most people do find that they need some form of intensive moisture treatment a few days or weeks after a protien treatment though.

One other word of warning - a harsh shampoo will *not* do anything to make your hair grow. Harsh shampoos strip the hair of it's own oils, which makes the hair more liable to break. Your body then goes into overproduction, trying to replenish the oils, the hair gets greasy, so you wash it more often, and you end up in a nasty cycle that will hinder your hair. To this end, a particularaly gentle shampoo *will* help hair to grow.
