My favorite characters are Jemima and Pouncival, and my favorite song is 'Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.'
I just missed being able to see the play on Broadway but I plan on buying tickets the minute the show re-opens.

I love the CATS musical. Love, love, love it! I'm just curious if there are any fellow CATS fans out there, how long you've liked it, who your favorite characters and songs are, etc...

CATS and I go way back.
It opened on Broadway when I was in middle school, and my father took me to see it for my birthday during its very first season. Our seats were in the very back, because that was the best we could get. We were both blown away by it! He puchased the original cast recording double LP that night, and a sweatshirt for me (which I wore until it disintegrated Every year thereafter, we would go to see CATS on stage, sometime around my birthday, June 12th. 'Now and Forever!' we joked. We even got to see it performed in London one summer, in 1988. Theatre in the round, much different looking from NYC. Fave characters? Grizabella, of course. Rum Tum Tugger was dad's main man! I also loved the creamy-colored lady cat that sang with Asparagus, I forget her name. McCavity was creepy, and being a horror-fan, I was attracted to him. Mr. Mistopheles I just wanted to squeeze. What a cutie! The year that CATS closed, we went 6 times. The last time was front row. What fun! I got my hair played with my the performers. Well, the show is gone in NYC (Mamma Mia! is playing at the wintergarden theatre now) but I hear it's still running in London. Perhaps I'll get to go again some day! |

Oooh CATS!
I have the DVD, the soundtrack, some posters, of course the book of which it is based and I even made my own CATS costume/CATS persona ^_^ I've never seen it live though - it finally came to Denmark last summer, I think it was last year. A friend of mine went to see it, and she was horrified. Half the actors couldn't dance because they were too chubby and old and the other half couldn't sing. Some songs had only partially been translated into Danish - and a Danish/English version of Memory is just not the right way to sing it. Some were still all English, a few were all Danish. Needless to say, I decided not to go see it and just wait until the day the bf and I go to broadway Anyways... a fave between all the CATS? I dunno.. it's very hard - I love Rumpleteazer and Mungojerry, they're so.. kitten-like and silly *grins* I totally adore Gus the Theatre Cat (the old cat), he reminds me so much of an old cat I had once. And Skimbleshanks - he's just cool and it's so funny, how he thinks the train can't start w/o him. Not to mention Rum Tum Tugger (Frank-n-Furter in cat-shape! And Bustopher Jones is so funny.. and Mr. Mistoffelees, a li'l cutie! I dunno, I guess I love them all Of females, my heart melts whenever I see Jemima or that cute, cute little Etcetera (esp. when she goes bananas over Rum Tum Tugger's hip-swings). And Rumpleteazer rocks - I just love her accent! And Bombalurina is cool too, such a sexy "kitten" I just can't pick a fave song.. all songs make me cry or laugh or smile and not one isn't able to touch me in one way or another. Btw, for those who haven't read T.S. Eliot's book Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats - just do it Heh - it's just really cute to read the songs as poems and the drawings are so cute ![]() ![]() Huge thanks to Lovely Tickle for SB, Blossom for Newborn SB, Kohala for Seapony SB, Cardinal Melody's Pony Maker, LyrePony for Fakie and Rinse N Spit SBs, NightGliderOH for Baby SB and finally BabySnowBright for my blinkie! Did anyone see it when David Blonn was Pouncival? I think he said he was in it during a 2002 tour... I miss all the guys from High School choir. He's an awesome dancer and singer.

That was one of the plays we went to see during our Senior trip in high school. We went to New York (a bunch of high school seniors, running loose in New York from Ohio...do we see disaster there??), and we got tickets to Cats, Les Miserables and the Buddy Holly Story. How lame was the BH story! I wanted to see Phantom, but "we couldn't get tickets all together, so we got tickets for this one instead!" What a bunch of bull! Like I wanted to sit with other geeks on the trip!
ANYWAY, it was worth seeing Cats in the NY theater...they built it around the whole play, so instead of a theater, you were sitting in the junk yard! It was too cool...all the glowing eyes around the walls and the performers coming from behind us to crawl down the banisters...that was so neat to watch. I like Mr. Mystofolis (OK, I know that isn't spelled right!) and Rum Tum Tiger (OK, he was TOO HOT in his skin tight leotard...ladies, you know what I'm talking about!!!). But my absolute fav was one of the off characters, that didn't have a name. A Siamese cat, lady, and God was she beautiful! One of the most graceful people I have ever seen...I couldn't keep my eyes off her when she was dancing. The total epitamy of beauty to me, really. It was just breathtaking watching her with the rest of the cast. I do have the soundtrack, so I listen to that every so often. The song Memory was one my friend used to play on the piano in high school, so I'd known about the whole play, just not what it was about. Cathie

Hey Squirt...
They all have names - She's called Cassandra :P There's another off character, but she's meant to be a Burmese - she's called Exotica |
